Our annual hot pot supper was held at Cafe Ambio at Junction 36 Auction on Friday 23rd January. There was a stock judging competition, photographic competition, raffle, bingo, spot the dog and charity auction. Mr Metcalfe of Box Tree Farm had recently passed away, and his shepherds guides and flock books were kindly donated for us to auction. They were in demand, with buyers keen to acquire the older ones in particular. The flock books from 1949-1959 raised 170 pounds. Thank you to everyone who donated prizes for the auction, we appreciate your support as we try to raise the profile of one of Cumbria's native breeds of sheep.
All together 2639.50 was raised, with 1639.50 being donated to Rosemere Cancer Foundation. This was our chosen charity this year. Rosemere Cancer Foundation is seeking to improve the provision of cancer care at Westmorland General Hospital, so that some treatments can be carried out there instead of patients having to travel to Preston. This was an initiative that our society was keen to support. One thousand pounds from the total amount raised was kept by the RFSBA to cover the cost of attending sheep events this year, with the remainder being donated to Rosemere.
