The annual show and sale of Rough Fell Breeding Rams on behalf of the Rough Fell Sheep Breeders Association had an entry of 192 for the sale.
There was a strong line up of rams forward for the pre-sale show and thanks must go to our judges Mr BH Williams, Mr S Huck, Mr S Watson, Mr JS Handley, Mr R Simpson and Mr D Stephenson as well as Mr J Capstick for standing in at the last minute. There were many admired rams out for the show with the championship rosette being awarded to the first prized shearling from the open class lot 139 from E & K Bland of Cotegill, Tebay with RF3100 sired by RF2621 Barugh Watch Me Go. This powerful tup went on to sell for 3,800gns to Amy Harrison of Kentmere.
It was the reserve champion, lot 165, RF3034 High Cark Awesome a shearling, sired by RF1922 Flakebridge Viper, from I & J & M Mallinson of Borrow Bridge House, Selside that sold for the top price of the day of 9,500gns. This was a much admired tup for its size and style sold to Norman Dodd of Kirkby Stephen.

The ram lambs sold to a very selective trade with breeders picking out the best which sold away nicely topping at 550gns from JA Law of Raven Cottage selling to D & HM Watson of Middleton Hall, this was closely followed by 520gns from AE Luffman of Beckside selling to Amy Harrison of Kentmere. The ram lambs that sold averaged £243.60.
The majority of aged rams sold, topping at 550gns from VR Guy of Tebay, who also sold aged rams to 350gns. All aged rams sold to a market average of 172gns.
